This is the first time that I have detected an old estate that has lean to's barns chicken coops and corals. I know when looking at a normal estate to check under trees and places where people would eat/relax/read. BUT, I've never been to a place like this before and looking for any hints as to where I should detect, and or dig. The spot has two separate out houses, and the older one has produced some nice bottles and a considerable amount of broken glass. The newer isn't producing anything good yet. I have yet to find a Cache and would love to get my hands on one.

Just to give an idea of what the layout is, the property runs North/South and the back yard (clockwise starting from the main house going north) is an out building attached to a chicken coop, then a stable for pony's or possibly goats/sheep, then a lean to, and an open corral behind that. to the east is another corral, and attached to the south is a pig corral with a short lean to (about 2 1/2 feet high) next to that is another pig corral with another lean to. (Both pig corrals have troughs) attached is a mid sized lean to with a pen, and next to that is a bath house (or what seems to be). The our houses are to the east but in the center of the back yard between trees.

So there you have it! Any help would be great!:icon_thumright:

Go to the cache hunting section of Tnet for ideas. Read before posting because there's tons of answers posted for your question already.
Undoubtedly check the chicken coop and key areas visible from the master bedroom.

I didn't even know there was a cache hunting section. Every time I get on here I learn something new. This site is huge!!!

cali,
Also if you can identify it detect under/along the clothes line. Like you mentioned trees are always a good place as they draw lots of different folks and kids love to climb them, check out the good climbing trees and the good shade trees first. On a good sized place like that you should look at it from the point of view of "what would draw more than one person to that spot"? Like a horseshoe tossing pit(s), picnic tables, the well, a fruit tree, etc. The best of luck with your quest..........63bkpkr

I downloaded an android app called tect o tract. It's perfect for sectioning large areas to detect, and for logging your finds.

around the house and under steps and porch even drive way if gravel, the path to out house also, and if your able to access in side the house heat ducts along walls were base board is you may find a coin or two, and in the basement, grid it off and work it from every angle low and slow and dig everything

Grid it out and search everywhere...

Yup...do a grid system.....they work everytime

Just use landmarks in the yard for the grid....outhouse, chicken coupe, tress, sidewalk, corner of the house, etc.

Good luck man..and don't forget to post your finds.

I tried this last night. Did a little midnight hunting.....the area has a ton of trash so I decided to take a rake with me and get the top stuff out of the way. While I was doing this I raked up a roller skate and a plate. the rest of the stuff I found was mostly nails and trash. But here are a few pix.
