I had a plan to help a friend find his property marking pins yesterday. What a crap day! Snowy and messy, but not really that cold. So I headed over and tried to find his pins but I wasn't able to locate them. I'm thinking maybe they were too deep, or the mega iron signals everywhere threw me off. Afterwards I detected the yard a bit (I detected it back in 2013 and found some good coins.). I managed to find a handful of pennies, the oldest being 1929D wheat cent that I gave to him. Today I had plans to scout/detect a couple of spots with a different friend who is new to detecting. I let him use my ATPro and he's getting the hang of it. The weather cleared a bit today so we headed out. The first spot was a bust. The second spot is a place I found my first Barber half at back in 2010, and haven't been back since. It's an old freshwater spring that saw use for a long time.

I found nothing, nada, zilch. The grass was pretty high and the mud was nasty. However, the new guy found this thing 10 inches deep. It's pretty cool but not sure what it is exactly. The crude soldering on the back makes me think horse rosette. It's got a nice design, and I'm glad he found something good on a slim pickens day.

That's a very cool image! Never seen one like that before.

That's a cool find. I'm looking forward to see what information the TNET community shares on this one.. Congrats and HH

It looks almost like the front of a pocket watch. You can see where the hooks possibly were on the back though so I can see why you're thinking rosette. I'm leaning toward pocket watch cover but take that with a grain of salt because I'm no expert.

I agree Pocket watch cover HH Chug

Didn't expect this thread from two months ago to pop up! Anyway thanks for the replies.

My friend who found it did a bunch of research and found an exact match: fancy horse bridle rosette 1890-1910 era.

That's a cool find. Congrats!
