Hi guys!
New to the forum, been detecting for a few months and stumbled upon this site and it looks like a good place to be.
Here's a find I've been trying to identify and if you guys could help I'd really appreciate it!
It's a small holed "coin" pretty thin, pretty wiped of any detail and just barely smaller than a Roosevelt dime. It rings nicely when dropped on the table and came out of the ground pretty clean so I believe it's silver. It has an "X" scratched into both sides (not cut into them, the lines are just a bit off so it wasn't snips trying to cut it)
There looks to be an "F" at about 4-5 o'clock in the first photo (if the photo uploads in the correct orientation. Sideways it's about 1-2 o'clock)
This rings up as a solid 75.
I'm thinking half reale and I'm just seeing things with that "F"?
Or is this something else?

Sorry for the cell phone pics but it's all I have at the moment, hopefully they show enough of what's left of any detail, which isn't much.
Thanks for looking

Well, it looks old and silver, and I can see the F and at least the edge of another letter on around. Assuming the hole is at true 12:00, and the top pic is the reverse, and therefore upside down, as the hole would probably be at the top of the obverse. If so, then here is a possibility 1416864-2813550-001rb.webp. I would say the F looks too big to be this particular coin though. Anyway, my two cents, there are some guys in here who are pretty good with Spanish silver. Nice find.

I found one a month back with similar scratches on the front, not a perfect X though, and completely worn smooth. Maybe the "X" was to indicate that it is no longer valid currency, probably weighing much less than supposed to. Mine measured the same as a 1 Real or English 6 Pence. Nice find! I would assume that it is Spanish, or maybe English.

Thanks for the replies David and coinman!
That's a good possible explanation for the "x" too...
I'm open to any other info.
Coinman that's a cool find right there, I'd love to dig that up.
I'm leaning toward half reale just wasn't sure if there would be a positive ID with that F and any other small details.
Thanks again guys!

I too found a similar coin back in 2009 or 2010. I'm pretty sure its a 1753 one reale.

As for the X I had always wondered if someone was trying to turn it into a button...
