Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Looks like virgin ground to be finding coins like this, deepest one probably 6" or so. Very nice Indian, V nickel, 2 cent piece and a quarter that looks like it was a victim of fire, looks like 1950 something.
Area is a bit overgrown and a challenge, almost tempted to do some lawn mowing but don't want to attract attention, so I'll see what I can do to pull some more out of the ground. 3 found with simplex and 1 with my new vanquish, really I think just about any detector could have found these, just a matter of slow sweeps looking for repeatable signals to get the easy stuff, anything lurking deeper will require more finesse.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Great coin finds and the V Nickel is in amazing condition!

Yes I think I have found optimal soil conditions for what ever reason, nickels often come out of the ground a bit toasty. All of these appear to be above average ground dug condition

I'll say you have, I've never seen dug coins look like that...what kind of hole were they in? :laughing7: Nice finds.

Tough to tell why things happen as they do decades and decades under ground.
I found my oldest coin ever this summer, 1835 penny, and it was near pristine. In the same area I found indians and mercs that were trashed almost beyond recognition, but I figured the reason for that. It was a street tearout and most items I found under the actual street were toast, and that is no doubt because of road salt leeching down over the years. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/today-s-finds/634170-oldest-coin-date-1835-a.html

The 1835 luckily was just a few feet off to the side of the road buried sand like dirt and was well preserved. The soil I am digging here is pretty hard backed on top but gets nice and rich and black a couple inches down, and it appears this soil does not degrade metal like some soil does.

Nice hunt right there!!!! That V nickel is in great shape and the 2 cent piece is at the very top of my bucket list, great job!!!!!
