Looks like a hook used to catch chickens by their legs. It went on a wooden pole/rod.

Ok this is tough with no details. But I am going for it. maybe an old end of of hand crank for an awning? Hey SKaBa, when I was a kid ,we raised chickens and would catch them by the leg like that with a pc of stiff fence wire. You made me think. Maybe thats it.

It was found next to an old Va farmhouse used as cw HQ. I'm hoping its a sword hook. But base is round so I'm skeptical. Belt buckle bayonet minie balls all within ft of this.

My first thought was shepherds crook or hook, but then realized it's to small, so agree with SkaBa, it's for catching chickens. I remember from when I was a kid.

Window hook used in Gyms etc.

It does resemble an old school window crank pole hook but it is too small and not sturdy enough. I was always happy when the teacher chose me to close those windows, it made me feel older because I looked at it as a responsibility.
