Hi, hoping someone could send me in the right direction. I recently found this horseshoe, I had to dig it out from the roots of a massive oak tree, so can only assume its rather old but having trouble finding anything that helps date it. I also found this lump of iron that someone has told could be an old German farriers tool, well the end of it anyway
Thank you for any help. Stephen 20210902_155148.webp20210902_155129.webp20210902_155212.webp20210902_155201.webp

Welcome to TNet!!

the chunk of iron looks like a plow moldboard.

thank you

Welcome to Tnet!!! Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Horseshoes with a cleat (what I call it) aren't too old. The ones I've found from the 1800's don't have that piece sticking up on it. They're also cruder than the one you found. My guess is 1930's or so.

Reminds me of an old tradition or superstition where a horseshoe is hung from an oak tree (or above the entrance to your home) to ward off bad spirits.

Welcome to Tnet. .. .. .. .. .. .. :hello:

Hey, fellow UKer:occasion14::hello:

Don't worry about the horseshoe & how deep it is, & where it was under the roots. Just find the treasure near by which I can help you with.
