I didn't have anything to do this morning so I went MDing at a site we refer to as "the round ball field". Everytime we hunt there it gives up round balls. And today was no exception. I dug 7 small caliber balls. But, I got two firsts from this site that gives me hope of better finds to come.
I found two small buttons, one, a two piece with a hard rubber back and a one piece with the "Scovills" backmark that puts it between 1827-1840.
I didn't get to the field until 7:00am and it was already 80 degrees. By 9:00am I was sweating like all get out and the gnats were swarming all around me.
By 10:00am I was done. But I am encouraged by my finds and will get back soon.
I forgot to include a size reference in my pictures but, the largest button is about 3/8" in diameter. The tack on the right is smaller than a modern day thumbtack.
