How do you ship your gold?

At our place we stuff a 40' Conex full to the brim and then everyone shoulders the door to get it shut. Personally I have had gold refined twice and I drove it to the guy that refines it as he was local. How far are you planning on shipping it?

I've never found enough placer gold to ship........But shipping scrap jewelry. It's been a few years...The one refiner paid the shipping. Just weighed it,Packaged it up good, and took it to fedex with a number to give them. Then once I had my receipt I was no longer responsible. If it came up missing? Supposedly they (refiner)would have still cut us a check as long as we had our receipt or a confirmation. We called it in first to lock prices at times. And that is when they give you a shipping number or id number to give fedex.

Never had any come up missing or lost. And I shipped 2 to 3 times a week at that time. Some nervous times! Kind of scary just shipping it off!:laughing7:

Your best to call the refiner and ask! They will tell you who the best is to use and what to do. I WOULDN'T send any amount without first talking to the refiner you want to use. If your going to ship A lot, there will be paper work to fill out. I forget where that line or amount is. Patriot Act stuff.
That may only apply if your getting a check or transfer. If it's on a service or trade? It may not apply.

The refiner your going to use is probably the best source for answering any questions.

Years ago when silver went high....My Mom and Step Dad sent me over 7 thousand in silver in coin to sell for them through the mail. Just a USPS, Priority box. I WOULD NOT ADVISE THAT!!!!!!!!!!:laughing7: Then, it was left on my front porch. When I got home, felt this heavy box on the porch, Opened it, saw the note"please sell for us! Love Mom", and I about passed out!! Thinking of how fast that could have came up missing!!! Especially, where I lived at the time.

Insured Priority Mail :skullflag:

start by double bagging, had one pop open, my guess was the air pressure going up in a plane
package well, you'll want tracking and insurance

Dont think I'll be stuffing a conex container (would be nice tho!) ... that said where it ships out from totally depends on the time of year and where I'm at in that regard... I wont be in Alaska (not that I know of anyway) so it'd be shipping somewhere from the southwest / western part of the country. If I had a choice I'd definitely like to deal locally but I need to be able to sell smaller quantities regardless of my locale. I'm a preventive type personality, I like to plan for everything. xD

I have never shipped, only hand carry. I do know those that do.
Ship only in quantities that really matter or a small amount to establish a relationship for the long term. Several ounces minimum.
Insure to the value of spot on the day shipped plus 10%.
Smelt into a dory to simplify handling at each end.
Video tape the drilling of the dory 3 times. Use the drill scrapes as a 3 samples. Seal each sample in a separate envelop. Use these as samples in case of a question of purity. One sample goes with the dory for the vendor for their sample, one for you if you question the the vendor and third is if the dispute goes further.

Just for fun (and I don't why I do this, I guess I find it interesting).. A shipping container full of solid gold would weigh somewhere around 3 million pounds.

20 tons, about the max you can put in a container and still get it legally over the road would cover the floor about 1.25 inches deep.

Even a large USPS flat rate box will hold over 500 lbs of gold. Though a small will only hold about 50lbs, and I guess that works since
its a max of 70lbs.

When they say GOLD IS HEAVY, they aren't kidding.

David H. Fell & Company: Homepage I have worked with them and they are good to go.

What do you consider "smaller quantities"? I post a county wher eyou would like to sell and the folks her ecan point you in the right direction..... shoot some may even buy from you.

USPS Priority mail with signature required for pick-up is how I've shipped nuggets or buttons, but this has always been over an ounce. I wrap it, put it inside of a small jewelry box for them, then put that box into the small priority mail box, available at the post office, wrapped in either bubble wrap or newspaper depending on what's here.

Thanks everyone... ratled I'd like to give some generous number but I'm sure in actuality it'll be a few oz at a time, possibly less, but hopefully much.. much more :)
