Just bought a MXT on ebay and am looking forward to finding objects deeper than 3 inches. All of the buttons I've found near the surface are in rough shape. Are buttons found at greater depths less exposed to moisture, oxygen, etc. and are therefore typically in better shape? What types of soils tend to preserve or corrode buttons?
thanks-C

Fertilizer eats buttons so, in plowed fields the buttons will usually be in rough shape or practically gone in most of the plowzone (about 12-16" or so). Pasture that has always been pasture is some of the best ground to hunt or in woods that has always been woods.

Yup, fertilizer eats buttons bad, especially the good part....the front.
