I found this pewter (I think) flat button today and need some help. It's about the size of a nickel and seems heavy for it's size. Based on the fact that the back and the shank have mold seams, my research indicates that it's pre-1750. Is that correct? This button seems to be in really nice shape to be that old. I thought that pewter buttons did not hold up well in the ground?

Here's a few pics. Give me your opinion on this button. I'm not even positive that it's pewter, so let me know if you think that's what it's made out of. Thanks!

your date seems about right in the ball park - some soils will totally obliterate pewter - others wont do much

Thanks for the confirmation! It rang up as nickel and foil, so I didn't think it was a brass button. I'll keep hitting this spot until it gives me a Rev War button or a GW button! You never know...
