was curious on how some of you research possible sites and how do you actually go about looking for points, flakes, hand axes, scraper etc....

Around here in my area of upper Pa. and upstate N.Y. They hunt a lot in the spring time. When a farmer plows a field, wait until the first gentle rain, then walk the field early in the morning with your back to to the sun. The arrowheads and such will usually stand out more than just the plain stones. I know people who have found hundreds of them this way. One person also found a gold coin.
Good luck hunting,

thank you for the reply. i live around alot of fields i will have to try this technique this spring right after they plow. ;D

The frost will kick them out of the ground, as long as they aren't covered in snow ::). After a good rain, run out there and scan the ground, any edge of a rock sticking out of the ground pull it ! Most of my whooooo hoooooos were side ways points. Above all else never leave any rock unturned.

Plowed fields along rivers or lakes are best. Also caves or rock ledges are also good.also don't forget to look for signs of old homesites, trading posts etc.By this i mean pieces of brick, glass etc.A buddy and i recently found a site this way and have been finding some very good stuff with or without the metal detectors. My buddy found a nice spearpoint while digging a signal and i found a nice point when i bent down to dig a signal. The best of 2 worlds ! ;D

i never knew that the frost would kick some up or out like that that is interesting. would be nice to start looking and i live out in the country alot of soy and corn fields by me will have to start checking some out and see what i might be able to find. what about around old creeks etc? i have a nice one that runs through the woods behind my house. must have put a nice smile on your face when you pulled out that spearpoint
