How to price gold nuggets?

My father in law has about 3 grams of small Alaska gold nuggets and I am going to the GPAA show in Primm this weekend so my question is how do I know what is a fair price for gold nuggets so I don't get screwed? Are nuggets worth more than spot? What about gold in quartz? Thanks.

from what i have seen on here yes they are worth more then spot

Is my math correct that if spot was $950 then 3 grams would be $100 or so?

Gold in quartz is called specimen gold and always is more valuable than spot. It usually is made into jewelery or used as a display piece and if large enough is sought out by collectors. Tom Massie owner of Gold Prospectors of America just did an article this month on this subject and I am sure you can pick it up at the show,
