I worked security at a metal detector at a courthouse once. When the jury would go into the post suppertime ('dinnertime' for you yanks) hours and most everyone had gone home, it was sport among the bored officers that had to be there to see who could go thru the metal detector with all his belt gear/gun/etc on without setting it off. It can be done but sloooooooow is the key.

Same principle that you are illustrating, I think.

I'm not a geek when it comes to understanding all of the electronics involved in metal detector/processor designs, however, I was amazed at the difference in the way many detectors responded to these much slower swing speeds. Some continued to respond well while others simply failed to respond at all. Maybe one of the tech members can elaborate a bit deeper as to why this is? All I know is that it's a good thing to be aware of in regards to the machine in your hand.
