How would you search a crowd area after an event?

After a large crowd has watched an outdoor event, have any of you searched the grass afterwards?

I hope to try that some time but I have to work on the 5th this year, dangit.

What would be the best detector for this type of surface hunting? I wouldn't want to dig anything, just find stuff down in the grass.

I have 3 (!) Tesoros; a Vaquero, a Silver uMax, a Compadre, and a Garrett 1350.

Anyone have any ideas which machine would work best?

And at what type of settings for discriminate, sensitivity, etc.? Techniques?

Just curious. Any advice would be appreciated.

type of detector dosn't matter alot.

swing fast you won't get as much depth.

high disc and swing fast will go even shallower

Yeah I was thinking swinging fast might be the way. But with the high discrimination, wouldn't you miss a lot of jewelry?

I'd agree with you, Thump, about the Vaquero.
I'm still getting used to it but it seems to find the small stuff
"almost" as well as the Compadre.

This is easy! Start in ALL METAL, and grid 50'x50' (First N-S, then E-W) sections. When you hit a target you'll see it on the surface, if not, THEN try discriminating to rule out digging iron. I would use the Vaq.

Yup...the VAQ for the larger coil for quicker coverage!

My chance of getting out tomorrow has just about slipped away, but there are other events coming up.

I'll definitely use the Vaquero when I do get out.
