These are quite small, I'm guessing not much more than three inches tall. I don't know much about them, but we have two different kinds. Both about the same size, don't know if it's just the difference in male and female, or two different species.

Those are some great pics! You definately have a talent!
I was so proud of myself yesterday to get a shot of a ruby throated hummer at my feeder..........................but now I feel Walmart on Rodeo drive :P lol
BTW, that hummingbird.net is great for tracking migration in the spring

those are great hard to get them sitting---their normally going like crazy --they use the sugar from the plants necture to super charge themselves while eating small insects --I heard recently--funny I thought they "lived off solely from the necture" myself up till then---Ivan

I have my feeder about 6' away from the tree's. They will feed at the feeder then perch in tree's and watch the feeder. When another hummer shows up they will attack. Seems they spend more time fussing over the feeder than feeding.

the males are very "protective" of their "sugar" source will always allow a females but no other males to drink---the males will fight badly over a suger source---they need it to live and for breeding rights both---its a matter of life and death and they treat it that way----I have several of ruby type hummers that visit my back yard in florida ---the hotter it gets the more they need the "sugar"----and the quicker it "sours"---Ivan
