''Hunted Out'' Roman Site...

I spent 4 hours & 15 minutes on my own today to check out a site that used to be very good. (had 2 Celtic Gold Coins from it) It really needs a deep plough, as I gridded the best area's & there is only small coins, small lead, & small nails left. The shallow jiggled soil & recent rain has shown up a lot of pottery though & I got my largest ever piece of Roman Roof Tile.

16 Bronze Coins
18th C Leather Mount
1st C Fibula (Broken)
An OK Barbarous Imitation of Carausius - with a blundered backward 'P' on the reverse with funny stick figure!

I need to try a better site & let this one rest until its deep ploughed.

Yes, this site had a 'rough mosaic' floor with under floor heating & a tiled roof. Maybe a 2 floor set up??

It has a pit which has been previously dug in the 1970s that had 1st BC-1st AD Brooches.

That's so cool

Sounds like a bath house site, you would have to prise me away with a bar from there, sounds like there are more things waiting to be found.

Never thought of a bath house, good idea. It used to be one of of Fav sites but I did grid the best area & we have to spent our time wisely this time of year. Our average bronze count should be more like 8 an hour, not 4 an hour. (I have 3 other big sites to consider & a short window)
