I went to B of A and bought a box of dimes( paper) and nickels(paper, my finds
Dimes
1947
1953
Nickels
1944
1943 (IN THE SAME ROLL)
Than when I went to TD to dump, I ask for a box of dimes...

They only had $50, but guess what, PLASTIC ROLLS, It takes me about 30 seconds to look through the 10 rolls and I give back 9 of them but keep the one with the SHINY SILVER EDGE, It turns out to be A 1964 in VG condition.
I love dimes. I never got this kind of rush with Cents.
Oh I also did a box of halves and didn't find anything, I don't think eastern rolls of Halves produce that much of a profit.

Also is this a good trade? I traded a Junk Merc for a G 1936 Buff. Nickel and a very worn 1911 V nickel (you can only see half the stars and you can barely see the united states of america?

Thanks

Eric

It all depends on what you want and what you collect :icon_thumright:

If you like your 2 nickels more than you liked your Merc, its a good trade. If you liked your Merc better than the 2 nickels it isn't that great of a trade. The nice thing about collecting is that no one can say that you are doing it wrong. For example, I like Silver Britannias more than American Eagles, people might say I'm crazy that I'd pass up a $33 Eagle in favor of a $37 Britannia because I'm getting less silver for it, but I prefer the Britannias. Similarly some people scoff at the idea of trading 40%ers in for higher purity coins because you will lose some of the silver, other people like them because they take up less space in their SDB. There is no right or wrong way to collect as long as you are happy :icon_thumright:

It is good etiquette to take whatever you ask for though... so if you ask for $50 in dimes, you should take them, just as if they offered you $10 in halves but you can instantly tell they're clad. Take em and deposit them elsewhere :)

It really depends on the bank. There's some banks who barely tolerate me asking for halves and so I take all they have. Other banks the teller just hands me the MWR, hands me some spare rolls and just lets me search and roll them on the counter.

I'm sure it depends on location / how busy is the bank / how well the teller likes you / etc.

In LA I would never do that, theres to many people and I don't want to clue anyone off to what I am doing + they are waiting in line as well.

I'm also of the opinion if you ask for it, take it all, but as I mentioned above I'm there are places / situations where you could do otherwise.
