Two of us went to one of my sites yesterday, for a brief period of time. The farmer went deep this year and widened the field, so we decided to work the "new" edge of the field. We got both Confederate and Union bullets, I got a Merc dime! surprise! and a pre Civil War Virginia button which I don't have a picture of yet, it's the flatter kind with a silvered finish.

My funnest find of the day is a quest in progress for the coming weekend. It is a rock. To me, it's more fun than the other stuff I found, including an out of place 1912 wheat cent.

It made the Deus sing at about a 60 on the meter using Deus fast at 28 khz. Aka a hot rock...HOWEVER...hot rocks around here are generally coal. This is not coal. You can't see it in the picture but there is a golden colored vein in the rock, several actually. I will be reducing the rock to powder in the near future and smelting the golden mineral in it. Pyrites around here don't generally register on this machine, so it's probably a chunk off the famous gold veins known in this area and part of the Wissahickon schist. You know what they say...schist happens.

Let's see the button and other finds as well.
Glad you got out and scored.

Let's see the finds, let's see the finds...I haven't got them cleaned up yet but will.

We will wait cool finds

Nice hunt! Let us see the other keepers after you clean them up! :icon_thumleft:

Talking about stepping in schist.
I want to here how that melt goes.

Nice scores! Just remember... if you play with schist you might get some on you.

I get covered with schist all the time. It will take a bit to get that rock beaten into submission. I can crush it to dust, use a magnet to pull out the iron and smelt what didn't stick to the magnet. Now on the magnetized stuff, I'll smelt that differently. I want to do it outside. More rain is forecast.

Something smelt funny turned out to be schist.

Outstanding fines there Smokey, I hope you're rock turns out to have actual gold in it. Congrats on all your fines, like Tommy said we'll wait to see your fines, yet we're looking forward to seeing them. Again congrats and thanks for sharing!!! "D"

Well done Smokey.

Don’t forget to show us the button, once it’s cleaned.

Good luck to you!

I won't forget. When I'm done smelting both, depending on what comes of it, I may have the sample sent for X-ray diffraction which will identify what minerals are in it.

pretty cool.waiting to see the button!

My brother has the equipment to analyze samples at his lab in West Chester. Mass spectrometer dxa scan etc. Lemme know it might save some cash.

Nice finds. Congrats

Well, I'm getting caught up. The rock contains a pocket of limonite and hematite, no trace of gold. This started out as pyrite, but it has now decomposed.

Hate it when they do that!
