Went out for and hour and a half this afternoon. Warmed up into the 40's and ground was thawed but 4" of snow. I figured wouldn't get any deep signals with the snow in my way. Decided to hunt a small area on the side of a hill in the woods facing the sun. Less snow. Only dug about 10 targets mostly shotgun backs and this small gold ring. It was heavily incrusted with something. I figured it was plated till I got it home and figured I would just soak it in hydrogen peroxide for a while and if its junk oh well. I got most of the crust off and looked for markings 10k or something and I an not seeing anything. First Gold for 2014. I am 99% sure it is gold. 001.webp 002.webp 003.webp004.webp

Good find, but looks like maybe gold plated?

Nice find! I am kind of leaning toward plated due to the areas of discoloration. But who knows...

Its just some of the crust I haven't gotten off yet. I was thinking the same thing I have found plenty of plated rings in my time. Once I got the junk off it has been all nice and shinny the way gold should be. I also believe if it is gold its old,, before the government required jewelers to mark everything 10k, 18k, 24k and sterling, 925 also. I could be wrong I am no expert. I got some more crust off. Just cant get into the little divots and scratches and get those areas clean. 005.webp 006.webp 007.webp

Try letting it soak in lemon juice for a few hours. That should dissolve the crust.

Cool find, hope its is solid!

Oh I know it is with out a doubt.. Kind of makes me wonder about all the gold people have tossed out because they are not marked. I am sure it has happened.

My advice to you is Location, Location, Location.. Yes most parks are well hunted out. Go out and talk to people. Hay I see you live in a old house. Would you mind if I md it? Also put your self in the shoes of a Victorian Era person. What did they do? Were did they go? Hope that might help.

I have a few secret spots I have been working that are 1830-1850's but are so trashy it will take a lot of time to remove the junk without harming the grass.
I know there will be some good stuff, just putting in the time to get to it.
My yard is also doing well but a lot of trash and non trash to wade through. hope to bring up some older coins this spring!

Congrats! Gold is always good!

Looks to be plated, but thats ok your diging the right signals...

I hope your wrong but I don't think so. Solid gold doesn't pit and flake off. From what I can see in your picture it looks like a heavy gold plate. Get it checked out and let us know.

Nice find. I hope to get out some time this weekend when its warmer.
