i found this on the beach

me and my son went out metal detecting yesterday on a local beach found alot of new clad and i found this i think my ten year old boy is hooked he even broke his beach scoop it was cheap anyway i just wonder how this coin got here on a beach?if any one has an extra beach scoop they dont use any more give me an message thanks lee

Nice find! It is obvious that the coins was dropped by a vacationer on the beach. You are in a great area with a long history of shipwrecks. I would not be surprised if you find some much older stuff there!!

Once you get the bug, theres no going back, good hobby for your son delaware, re the scoop, if your on a budget for the beach you can make one out of pvc tube/ pipe, gal bolts and large hose clips, keep swingin.

Nice find from the beach, I'm going to say that its NOT a recent drop, I dug a lot of old silver off Daytona Beach 20 years ago after a Hurricane and they all have that grey pasty look, for some reason, years in salt water does that to silver. Value is not much because of Dug and Damaged by the salt water but always fun to dig a half dollar...
BTW I got two early halves off that Daytona Beach trip, I don't remember the dates but one was 1890s and one 1900s
and shocked me. but you could just barely see the dates because of the grey crap .... but hey ... it's still silver !
