I got a really early start this morning and got about 2 miles from my house and I realized that I forgot my gun. I turned around went back and got it. I headed out once again and got about another 2 miles down the road and it started spitting rain on my windshield. My back up detector in the car wasn't rain proof, so I turned around went back and got one that was. It never rained another drop.
On the way to one of the sites that I was going to hunt, I saw a guy in his driveway working on his car. He flat out said no to me detecting the yard. He was a little bit of a jerk, so I wasn't going to waste any of my charm on him. At any rate he had a box full of bubble wrap that I talked him out of. It comes in handy when you're shipping detectors.
I arrived at the site that I was going to detect. I've detected it before and found several silver coins and lots of wheat pennies. I pulled out my Nokta Fors CoRe. It was already programed to Di3, 95 Sensitivity, and 18 on the discrimination.
No sooner than I started swinging away I heard some one yell out at me. I pulled off my headphones and walked over to the lady standing in her driveway next door. She said, what are you looking for. I took the time to explain to her what I was looking for and how much I enjoyed the hobby.
She told me that she has lived in her home for 50 years. I said wow 50 years! Yeah, she says I'm getting old. I said, you must have moved in when you were a baby with your parents. That put a big smile on her face. Anyhow, I got around asking if she would mind if I detected her yard and she said without hesitation that I could. I give her a key chain light for being so nice. She really like it a lot.
I finally got back to detecting, and found 3 Rosie Dimes, 1 Mercury Dime, 7 Wheat Pennies and few clad coins from her yard and the yard next door that I already detected last year.
3 of the silver coins came from the yard that I had already detected and all 3 of them were being masked to some degree. I'd get a high pitch and some growling in the audio tone. Also the VDI numbers would jump around where they should be for silver. This detector can flat out unmask targets!
Later on I switch over to the Di2 mode with a sensitivity setting of 85, 18 on the discrimination. The Di2 mode will get several inches more in depth. I need to use it more. I found some deeper wheat pennies using that mode.
I have a Nokta Fors Relic headed my way to compare it against my Fors CoRe. I hear and read that it does an even better job at unmasking good targets. We'll see.
