Congrats! You'll love it.

Just use headphones (the low cost TreasureWise or simular work great) with volume controls to each ear.

I ran my uMax wide open with full sensitivity and ajusted the headphones for volume. This worked in our soil here.

Set the discrimination at about 10:00. Hunt in discrimination mode of course.

Move ahead overlaping swings and don't go too fast.

Coins tend to drop off quickly when you raise the coil a few inches. Large junk or surface clad will allow you to raise the coil 6 inches or so.

Coins and rings give nice repeatable signals from 2 directions. The signals will be small in area and tight.

See if sometime you can find a nice used 9x8 or 12x10 concentric coil. The 12x10 will give you more ground coverage and from 2-4 inches more depth on coins.

fantastic machine. I have a Conquistador umax which is a later version very similar to what you have. Every metal will make a different sound and it will take perhaps a year or more to tune your ear to decipher the subtle differences between them. eg; Coin at or just below surface will double beep, raise the coil slightly and you will get a solid repeatable signal. Aluminum makes a scratching or raspy sound. As said, it may take a year or so for you to become tuned in to your detector. have fun and good luck

No tips necessary. Just swing and you will find. It's that good and simple.
