That nickel is made of 75% copper and 25% nickel. I believe they are thinking about making a copper one. Because of the cost. I’m 100% not sure if that helps.....
 

Yeah , we should call them coppers , not nickels .
 

The plating has wore off,Due to being dug out of ground or woodchips in playground.

There is no plating on nickels, they are an alloy. They normally change to a copper color when exposed to the elements. The one posted looks like a typical metal detected nickel.

Same result as what I said, still just a 5 cent nickel.
