I was blanked on halves yesterday so I still had the $1,000 in my pocket. My wife and I took a road trip to a town I hadn't half hunted in before. Stopped at a Credit Union first, no halves at all. Next I went to a bank where a friend of mine works. I've asked her about halves but she didn't think they had many. She isn't one of the tellers so she doesn't really work with the change. They had a $500 bag from the counting machine and a partial bag in the machine. Bank policy is they can't remove a bag from the machine until it's full so I was happy to get the full bag. She is also going to find out if they can order me boxes without a fee.
Next bank the teller said they didn't have any loose halves but they had rolls. She said she didn't know how many they had so I said I could take up to $500 worth and she went and got me all I wanted. I'm not sure how many more they had. I was very happy to get my $1,000 worth at only 2 banks. The town has 5 more banks to visit so I will be making some more hunting trips there.

1987-P
. I also found 1 64, 1 66, 2 67s, and 5 68-Ds. The bag wasn't looked through or re-counted before I got it and there was a lot of interesting stuff in it
Now the bad news and advice I need. The $500 bag only had $457 worth of halves in it. I know the machines aren't perfect and I expect to end up a dollar or two +/-, but this is quite a bit short. Even with the extra change in it I'm $38.32 in the hole. Has anyone had a bag come up this short? There of course is no way for me to prove the bag was short since I took it home. Do the tellers usually recount the bag before you take it? This is the bank where my friend works so we were talking and I never thought about having them recount the bag. I'm going to let her know the bag was short and give the key back in case they are missing it.
I still have the $500 in rolls to go through. Some are white and shotgun rolled at both ends. Others are brown and rolled at one end but folded and taped at the other so they may be someone else's rejects.
