Found this at the trash pit that I have been digging in. This is the best I could clean this up for now. If it is a gun, instead of just saying yes it is, I would REALLY appreciate a photo of what it use to look like!

lol you are right, it wasn't a yes/no! I have found other cap guns before and they are all light weight. This piece is pretty heavy, I just googled cap guns and I see they use to be made out of cast iron, so I guess it is possible. Thanks for the info. If you find a photo that would be awesome!!!

Indeed, it is surprising the metal they used to make them out of, and how real they could look. The giveaway for me was the seam dividing the two halves if you look qt the front of the barrel, and actually the hammer part that claps down on the cap.

This one is close; 1920's National cap gun, measures 4 1/4 in., in goo : Lot 12
At any rate, I think it likely dates from the 20's or 30's at the latest. I'll look a bit more
