Alright back to the ranch again this weekend. It is slow going due to all the brush but I think that these people were so poor they traded goats or chickens and had no money. I know I know, I will eventually find it, but I would really really love just one old coin to pop out and give me inspiration.

Here are a few of the things I kept. Lots of Iron do dads and rusty stuff that I just pile there and leave for later. The usual, bolts, nuts latches, things from oil rigs and water wells. I would haul it all home but hubby would divorce me in an instant, since I hear already "Now what are you going to do with that!" So what is pictured is what I did sneak home....heee heee ;D

The spent shell is from a winchester 25-35 and it was introduced in 1895. The date fits in with the histroy I know of the place, but its only an assumption that the casing is around that old. The 22 bullet probably isn't old but the only thing it says on the bottome is HP, so I thought I would look into that. The handle I had hoped would be connected to a chest of silver/gold...yeah right. Not sure what kind of buckles the other two are.

The important thing is I had fun fun fun and I am already working on my spring break tan...well farmer tan anyway.

Even the poor folk had money, you will find it eventually. Look at this, a Half Cent was so valuable they put it on a string to keep from losing it!

Just thinking...you might look at the headstamp again on the .22. It may say RP (Remington Peters) instead of HP, which is generally used as an abbreviation for hollowpoint.

In the meantime good luck and HH!

Don't give up .......The next time you just might get some good coins!!!! ;)

OK, time for you to read my personal warning label (to the left and below my avatar) because I'm going to give you some advice. Since you aren't finding any coins where you've been looking, time to look where you normally wouldn't look. Instead of detecting the usual places, check where you'd really expect to find NOTHING. Use reverse psychology, IOW. LOL What could it hurt?

HP is the headstamp for the Federal Cartridge Co.,Hi-Power was their brand name.I used them 50 years ago because they were cheap.

The Federal Cartridge Co. started production in 1922.

If you keep on looking the money will come!

I should open a future telling bussiness!!!

Have fun and good luck,

txkicker! Great bunch of goodies!!

I know how you feel about the coins... I seldom dig them, but I know when I DO get them they are special! I can dig relics all day and not get a darned coin. :-\

And like TreasureTales, I also give advise (albiet usually bad)... search someplace different and you might be suprised!

Happy Days

I'm holding you to it!!!!lol and if I hit the mother load I will finance your new future telling biz.

No doubt the coins will come. I have such a huge area to cover 250 acres most covered in heavy brush. I have located 3 old homesteads on the place and the school. So its just a matter of time and grunt work.
Thanks to all for your encouragement and advise.

TX,
I love the title of your post. Hilarious!!! ;D

Interesting finds and good you had a nice time out, that's what counts, finds are secondary! HH, Mike

T,

nice artifacts; keep looking; coins in some
area.

I'm poor, so poor I don't even own goats :-\

Hope you pull up some coins. ;D

have a good un.....................

Poor folks had money, yes. They held it very close, and were careful not to lose it. When they did lose money it was a major loss.

Glenn Carson told me on the phone the other wekk that, "A Irish Imigrint once lost a nickle down and outhouse hole and that's how the Grand canyon was formed. ;D

OK,
Everybody else gives advice, why not me.
The SUREFIRE way to find money---invite a friend to MD--and as it always goes--the friend will strike it right off. Now if you need a new friend--why not a South Texan ( was born-n-raised right up the road from you in Kingsville) who already knows that if it grows--it will stick you, if it crawls--run from it or kill it !!!
Seriously (if thats possible for me), keep at it and ENJOY--thats what really matters.

Sure looks like your in the right area.I sure you will find some coins soon..
Good luck.HH Wolfbite
