I went back to campus today for some more detecting knowing I would probably find a pile of clad and maybe some other goodies. I did manage 130 coins with a face value of $8.95, a rabies tag from 1993, a dead Times watch, a Sears 20 year service pin and what looks like a Williams type II civil war bullet. We had a lot of troops in town during the civil war and I have found bullets all over town so I thought it was a definite possibility. After it came out of the ground I took a quick look and it just didn’t look right.
After I cleaned it I was sure it was a reproduction. The base is attached and should be a separate zinc washer. The seam goes all the way to the bottom of the washer. When you look close you can see the metal is starting to deteriorate so it is made of some base metal and has no white oxidation. Oh well better luck next time.
So no great finds today just a lot of clad. Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
