ID help...heavy iron looking object

I found this heavy iron looking object in my front yard, where I also found old bullet casings, I think my home was on a military base in mid 1900's. It is 7 1/2 inches wide and 5 inches length. Any ideas?

Almost looks like a step or foot rest for some type of vehicle.
