Hi, I found this S shaped hook in Havre De Grace on the 4th of July. I remember seeing similar hooks before but cannot locate anything similar now. Could this be from a sword or just a curtain rod? It is thicker in the midlle than the edges. Could this have been from the Revolution era, British or American, or just junk?

Thanks in advance

this is a hard one, i went back and checked every book and photo that i have. stopped by and asked people that renact civil war battles, they say that it looks like the small hook that is used to hold pots over a fire for cooking. boomer

Thanks Boomer!

I appreciate all the research! I have been on the net looking non-stop since I found this. This sounds reasonable to me. Maybe I can find a picture sometime. Anyway...thanks again!

I would agree...

I have been doing some research but cannot find much on earlier British models of the snake buckle. Two things make me think it is not a snake, the fact that one side is not closed and appears not to have been bent out. ...and the fact that it is not made of brass...

It does however have that decoration on both sides.

I will keep looking for a positive ID but for now the pot hook theory seems the most plausible of the group. Let me know if anyone finds anything more on this tough one.

thanks again!

How do I see your picture??? Is there a picture attached to this???
