Found this today at a well known river crossing near Spotsylvania Va. Which was a route Sheridan took on his raid. Its stamped brass, I think, and lead or solder filled. Cant find any info. The bar is gone so someone punched through it with something I guess for continued use? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

I think it is an "M" and may be a horse rosette.

War related, or civillian? Any idea? I thought it was too big for a rosette. But, im not an expert! Thanks guys.
