ID Help with buttons....

Dug these 2 nice buttons today....one is gold gilt, has eagle holding a shield with anchor in it. says " No.2 Fine Gilt" on the back. The other is eagle and above the eagle it has " A V C" . The back reads (I think) " Halfman/Montgomery" some help plzzzz! The penny is for size ....
Sorry about the poor scan...first time using it...lol

The AVC button is an Alabama Volunteer Corps button from the civil war.
The other one looks like a Federal Navy button for US Navy officers.
 
DANG!!!! That AVC is clutch! :o :o Those do not turn up often at all! My diggin pard got one last year, and I think yours is the same size as his.. a large cuff or vest size button.. helluva find :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: btw, peachy was dead on with the id's .. the navy button dates to the 1820's-1830's

thx folks.....awesome to hear about the AVC button....now about the navy button...I've been doing research on the net and I cant seem to find one that has "No.2, Fine Gilt" ?? any thing on that?
