Found in Putnam County, Ga.,never seen anything like it, I think maybe it is sandstone? When you rub your thumb on it you get a sandy brown dust on it. I have tried to break it, I can't. If happens to be for real I can't tell where the stem is, it could be at end with hole or at the opposite end from hole? If I soaked in water it may crumble but dry I can not break it....any comments are welcome ,except,"it is a natural rock" it is not natural,it may be a ancient equivalent to whittling to pass the time? Mods move posts to the proper forum every day, we do this because some members start them in the wrong forum for what ever reason....

Your thread was in North American Indian Artifact forum and has nothing to do with Indian artifacts.

Have to say Treasurenet's correct~ what your showing does not appear to be an artifact... It is a piece of sandstone, a natural cement of sand particles, and can be very hard to break. Most sandstone is relatively soft and can be shaped with simple abrasion. Sometimes artifacts are made of it however your sample would not be something people would fashion into art or tools~ its to soft and the sands are much to large to give a decent finish. However you could have some fun with it and carve your own artifact ;)
