Well to me it sure looks as if it came from the 1920s to 1930s. I see so many kinds of vintage auto club badges on ebay and some are selling in the $200 plus range, so I would say they're are collectors out there for those. I would try and straighten it out or maybe not?... just I worked in auto body shop long ago and don't do to bad at that kind of thing. I'd say it's a very cool find and certainly worthy of a cigar.

From what I can find online about the interlocking wheel logo on the bottom of your item I think it was only used from 1906-1912. 1910-1919 | AAA NewsRoom this link mentions the first use of the oval logo
http://exchange.aaa.com/about-aaa/aaa-timeline/ (click on the the link to see 1906), which mentions the logo yours has.
I realize this doesn't work with the 1929 date you mentioned, but...

Originally it was enameled in red, black and white on a gold-tone metal. As best as I could tell member number 13,000 was issued sometime in the 1930’s.

The Illinois Automobile Club’s headquarters were located at 2400 South Michigan Avenue in Chicago and was built in 1936.

tamrock,
Yes, with ten years on this site, I can only recall two items that went un-identified by the membership; but I wont open those wounds here.
Happy New Year !

Hello nhbenz. Thanks for the great reply and links. When we were researching this thing we did not go to the AAA website...duh!! From your 2nd link it looks like this badge may date from 1906 to 1912...cool!!

I sent an inquiry to AAA headquarters, maybe they can identify its vintage and the original owner. I will post whatever I find out.

Thanks again and good luck in 2014.
