I'm goin' to the dogs............

I traveled to a friend's house the other day, and worked the yard. Mostly came up with 12 cents, a clad dime and a couple of pot metal pennies.

But - out front by the street - I found this, probably lost a long time ago when one of our furry friends paused to sniff:

I like these better than an old penny; at least I can wear it and then legally act like a dog!

I actually gave it to the property owner, not needing another clink in the jar in the basement I'll never look at again. She said they will display it in the house where more folks will see it.

I found 4 on this site older then 1911... a few in the 1800's man thats an old dog tag!

Oldest Sauk Co. tag I've seen dug. Send me a message and let me know what town you're in, maybe we could go dig some holes sometime, Sauk is right up the road from me.

No one (well, not many do) buys these things now; can you imagine buying a dog license way back then? If it cost a buck, that was real money back then. 5 cents would buy a bushel of fireworks then. I can tell you I'd buy the fireworks........

Does anyone know what the typical fees were for these things?
