I got a new detector for my birthday and decided to try it out in the back yard and this was my first hit. Now the interesting thing is that I don't live anywhere near a farm. I've got a very small back yard and I'm only a couple miles from a major city. My subdivision is about 70 years old and that's one of the newest in the area. There hasn't been a farm around here in a very long time. It's nothing spectacular but it was fun to dig and pretty interesting considering where it came from. Thanks for checking it out!

I believe that long piece is what was used to hold up gutter spouts. Found one similar at an old farm house. Keep checking your yard.

The long piece is part of a Scythes, they were used in the harvesting grains.
It could date back well over 100 years.
Nice find

I was thinking a scythes as well. It's a bit small though for a traditional one, maybe a pea scythes? The golf ball is next to it in the picture for a frame of reference. It was down a good 6-7 inches. Can't wait to get back out there.

Many Flavors of this old Critter.

Pretty sure its a Pea Scythe. Used more for cutting corn stalks and the like. I remember using them with my Grandparents to clear out the old garden stuff. Very cool find, lots of memeroies for me. Thanks for sharing and welcome to TNet.
