I had a great weekend metal detecting with some of my best finds one of which was a bucket lister for me which I will get pictures of in part two of this post. My first coin right off the bat was an 1803 draped bust which is hard to tell from the pics but is in incredible shape. Then I found a couple of wheats and then popped a plug and all I could see was 2.50 at the bottom of the coin and it looked gold after cleaning the dirt off it I can tell that it’s not gold but still can not tell after research what it is any help would be appreciated. I will give round two of pics after I clean some of my finds up.

Wow nice detail on the draped bust. Some real nice finds. I like the buckle and old key. Congrats

Nice finds ! Love the DB, curious about the gold plated thing ? The key is great too !

I am to argentium any help on the gold plated coin? would be appreciated

Oh wow, that draped bust looks like it has a lot of detail! :icon_thumleft:

Can you show us the other side of the gold plated piece ?

The other side is worn flat with no readable detail

Well done great find

Most excellent finds Gold Panner! I found an incredibly sharp 1803 DB just a few weeks back also which is worth $100-150 bucks. Your coin is sharp enough that it's probably similarly priced and you most likely can find out the Sheldon Variety. Maybe you're lucky and it's a rare variety, despite the common date. I'll also be interested to see if you can id your gold plated coin. As you may know, gold plating coins was not all that uncommon back in the 1800s. I know they did that for a short time on a few of the early V-Nickel dates before authorities caught onto the practice.
