While off grid and taking pictures in Southern Utah, I found these two rocks that appear as if they might have been used as some kind of hammering tools. Any thoughts as to age or if they are just shaped this way from the stream?
The one with a groove around it is about 1-1/2 in.
The one with the tongue part of what appears to be a tongue and groove is about 3 inches.
Thank you for any help.

I don't see any evidence of alteration or usage my man--natural.

Welcome to TreasureNet ...Sorry, nothing in pictures says artifact.

ty!

The groove in the black one looks intentional. But why put the effort into grooving it when it's not suited for any known/imaginable use ?

An axe is grooved for a discernable reason. But there's no apparent reason with that one.

The groove looks like it is different mineral which is not as hard as surrounding rock and wore away faster, that would explain why groove is different color too.

I think a native found a small piece of hematite already shaped much like an axe and grooved it. I have some larger examples very similar.

The piece which appears to be hematite looks like it has a groove worked in it to me.

ty for the explanations...

I think its a small version if this.

The groove on yours is same color, the other one isn't, it is totally different color/mineral.
