It's one of those finds we all have a box of somewhere. Tokens, dog tags, chauffeurs licenses, cheap jewelry, tokens and other neat stuff. May not be really worth a lot, but its part of what makes it interesting. BTW, what part of Indiana are you from?

Oh I can't imagine the all the little things everyone has hung onto over the years it does make it very exciting at least for me!! I am from north central I live in grant county out in the country with a ton of history around and battle fields really a lot of opportunity around just need to get out to them!

Cool, I am in Salem, which is just NW of Louisville. Same here, lots of places that I need to get out and search. Looking at picking up a AT Pro soon, old Bandido just a bit outdated. Nice to meet you, and might run into you sometime!

You might find out your dog licences might fetch 30 bucks on e-bay, most tags and tokens are worth much more then similar dated silver dimes, quarters, halves, and even dollars. There are allot of people out there that have a soft spot for pets!

Great find!

A vintage dog tag is a very nice find. I'm a bit of a romantic and have a very vivid imagination. When I find something old like that my mind starts coming up with stories relating to the item. In this case I picture a big yellow lab laying day after day on the front porch looking up the road for his dad to come home. He has been doing this since his dad left to fight in WWII and stays vigilant from sun up till sundown every day.

people do collect them. I have three older ones from Pennsylvania that I've found. I checked old licenses online and people are looking for them.
I've held onto all of mine just because I like them. All of mine were found at less than 4", so I'm pretty sure I wasn't digging older buried dogs.....LOL. Just the tags, no leather or pins attached...

My first concern was that I was digging a possible dog grave as well since it was almost a foot down!!! But after checking I found no bones or leather so I think I'm OK! At least I hope because I'm a dog lover. And I was thinking the same thing about the war all I could imagine was a soldier walking his best friend one last time before he left for the war not knowing if he would ever see him again, which is why I'll be keeping it because that strikes a deep cord with me because I am a combat veteran and I remember walking my puppie (boone) the night before I left.

the question is always "how did it get here? what was the circumstance?" etc. but the coolness is in the fact that you even found it after all of these years. it might have belonged to one of the best hunting dogs around or just a regular yard dog. still a very cool find.
