Indigenous Bolivians claim share of sunken Spanish cargo

Members of three South American indigenous communities have filed a legal request to share any proceeds from the sunken treasure of a Spanish galleon if it's recovered. Colombia wants to claim the wreck and its contents but the indigenous peoples say their ancestors mined the metals. Lucy Fielder has more.

Very interesting video. Was the Bolivian claim filed in a Colombian court? The video didn‘t specify. Peru filed a similar claim for a share of the Mercedes treasure in the US Federal court case of Spain vs Odyssey but got nothing. I’m expecting a Colombian court to rule in favor of Colombia. We’ll see what happens.

The Bolivians might have filed in the UN Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, joining the SSA vs Colombia case there:

But that‘s just a guess. Peru and Panama are also making claims. Add in Spain and you’ve got a six-way battle. Get out your popcorn.

I was wondering how long it would take South American indigenous people to get going. Here in the US tribes seem to be getting more anti-Colombus of an attitude. Native T-shirts proclaiming Native Americans discovered Colombus lost at sea with a date included.

Colombia was smart enough NOT to sign the UNESCO law of the Sea so they should tell Spain to spend their time looking for and recovering all the mercury that they lost at sea. Wonder when all other countries will wise up and withdraw from the Law of the Sea?

My friends in the Colombian Navy all agree that no way in hell would they let Spain take any of SJ's treasure out of the country.
