info on waterproofing a sovereign gt

I am trying to make a gt rain proof, make a clear box for it. Does anyone have any pics or info on it or how they did it? I tried to Google it and had no luck at all.

I don't have any idea i want to get mine done i only hunt in knee to waist high but i would hate to drop it. I can not find any info on how you do it......Yes it would be nice to have pictures of a waterproof Sovereign............Jim

Maybe Max will post some pix of the GT that he waterproofed last year. I thought I had some pix of it but I don't.

I did not do the custom work, I only lucked out and found the detector for sale on TreasureNet minutes after it was posted. I got a very good deal on it, I paid $600 and it came already waterproofed, and included a 15 inch WOT coil, Black Widow headset, and AC battery pack. I had talked to the builder (RJnail) as he was building it last year trying to see if I wanted to attempt to build one and knew what he put into it as well as the cost. (The Ikelite case alone was $200) total cost with custom work was over $1200 when he built it as he used a new Sovereign GT.

It came designed to be worn on a dive belt that attaches to the side, I added the outside brackets for a shoulder strap to help distribute the weight. It is very water tight and has been under water many times when I stepped off sand bars and knocked down by the surf and not a single drop of water has ever got in the case.

RJ told me he got many offers to buy after mine and at least a dozen emails after I bought it of hunters asking him to custom build one for them but he want do it as it is a lot of work and he just doesn't have the time.

RJ will probably reply when he sees this post, but he is in the Philippines at this time and I doubt he will reply till after he returns.

I know at least one other member here who built one using a different style of case and his looked really nice.

If I ever sell it I will post it on TreasureNet to sell, but to be honest I don't see that happening anytime soon as I love the way the Sovereign GT responds in the water.

They are all Ikelite Parts including the box.

Most Dive Shops carry Ikelite Underwater Camera Housing and can special order the parts. Ikelite will not sell complete camers housings online. They make you order those through Dive Shops. But they will sell parts directly to people so you can avoid trying to get a Dive Shop to special order the parts. I don't know if they will sell you the plain waterproof housing. Even though it is a "Part" since it isn't fitted with any special camera controls they still may want you to order that through a Dive Shop/Dealer. I may try to get the box and just have the headphones come through it only. Due to I only wanted it for a rainy day so i can get a 15 in coil . Didn't want to mod my excal with a different coil unless I can get a good water tight connector for it. Has anyone used any of the waterproof connectors for their excal?
