While metal detecting an old mining district I found what I believe to be a small porcelain insulator. It has a big nail through the middle of it. It is in the shape of an old ink bottle. Sharp details, but has a chip off the top edge. It is about 3 inches tall and about 2 or 3inches diameter.
Questions: Are old porcelain insulators of any value? Should I attempt to remove the nail in the middle of it?
Anything you insulator guys/gals could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Sorry there is no pic, my 2 year old spilled coke in the digicam. Thanks again!

Answer is yes some of them are, but like any collectable it depends on style, color, and maker. Post a picture of it and I can clarify better I'm sure.
