I was cashing in the coins (no half dollars) from my last hunt at my dump bank during lunch on May 17. When the teller had finished counting, she asked me how I wanted my cash. As usual, I inquired about receiving at least some of it in half dollars and large dollar coins. Usually they have none, but this time they had half dollars and I was asked how many I wanted. I inquired as to how many were available, and the response was $700. I'm thinking this is somebody's dump, so I asked for just $300. When I got out to my car, I kept thinking that maybe I should have bought the entire amount. I decided to spot check a few rolls before leaving. I opened up 5 rolls, and immediately found 2 40% half dollars. I also noted that some of the rolls were marked with a bank's name that had been out of business for about 20 years. So I went back and purchased the remaning $400.

I could hardly wait until I got home after work to go through the rest of the rolls. When I did and told my wife what I had, she wanted to go through them with me. As we went through them, there was silver, but it was sparser than my high expectations. One of the rolls in the wrapper from the defunct bank was quite interesting. As I slid the half dollars out, I counted 4 silver edges. Mixed in with them, though, were two smaller diameter coins. I thought for sure they were quarters and that I was short changed. When I fanned the coins out on the table top, looking up at me were 2 Anthony dollars instead of quarters!

All together, we found 14 40% half dollars out of $701 of coins.

nothing like opening history! Looks like you got rolls that were sitting around for awhile

14 40% out of 700.00 seached is a great average, great find, I bet you're glad you went back in and got the rest.
