Dug this today, in Ontario, Canada. The only thing I can find is that George IV visited Scotland in 1822. Is it a commemorative button? If so, I can’t find any examples!

That is a thistle above the date. It may be Scottish military, possibly aHighlander regimental button. Possible starting point for research anyway.
