This is an 1861-O 50 cent piece associated with the confederacy. If memory serves there were three issues of this coin, the first was when the New Orleans mint was still part of the U.S.A. the next was when the mint was run by the state of Louisiana after succession, and the last when the mint was taken into trust by the C.S.A. The identifying feature on this coin is the die crack extending from the nose up to the rim. This is the obverse die crack that is evident on the four examples with the unique C.S.A. reverse. This particular coin shows a lot of "shipwrect effect" on the reverse having been recovered from the S.S. Republic. If you zoom in on the nose the crack is visible.
