Bought a grab bag of foreign coins for $20 from an estate sale outfit I frequent. The Filipines one peso caught my eye and I thought I would clean it for my personal collection...this thing was ROACHED but I thought may clean up well...don't scold me for cleaning as this thing was thick with black and almost unrecognizable!

What I also found was a (I think) key date three pence great pertain silver coin.

2 questions...how do I get the oxidizer ion of the Filipines coin? And am I right in research of the three pence? Key date? Any guess on condition?

Sorry about the threepence mate but the year you want for it is 1945 thats an extremely rare year for the 1945 George VI three pence. The Philippine coin should clean up well with some Baking soda and a little water. Make a little paste and rub the coin between your fingers with it. Should clean it and remove the dirt quite well. Awesome coins though great finds !

Don't you Dare do that. Don't clean it at all until you Know for sure it has no collectors value.

I checked pretty thoroughly on th value of the Filipines coin, it was only a small mark up over spot. The coin is so ROACHED I just want to be able to display it.

Thanks for all the replies!

Welcome to Treasure Net !!
The 1908-S one peso is worth about $15 (retail) if it were in VF condition.
It is the most common (21M) minted coin in that series (1903-1912).
Still, an interesting and historic find.

Thanks Mac! Any info on the 3 pence from you?

Thanks! Looks like that little guy will pay for everything by himself.

Notice the condition of the coin at auction. That is a high grade. There's no guarantee yours would fetch near that. Condition is key!

Just a quick update. Sold to a local guy that I take a lot of finds to. $800 cash and 2 graded ms63 Morgans worth about $50 each. Decided to sell because I need to be liquid and I thought it was fair for both sides.

I'll take it on a $150 investment all day!

Thanks again for all your help!
