We've had some swells along with a high tide the last few days. Found quite a bit of clad yesterday & this morning along with a 925 chain & silver Coca Cola bottle.

This large coin is very cool but I'm not sure what it is? It's from Charleston SC. On the rim of the coin it says Presented by the NOSC Charleston Commanding Officer, D. R. Rieke.

Thought some of you might be able to explain what it was issued for and if there would be any chance of returning it.

I'm sure someone's missing it.........

It is a Command challenge coin. The Commanding Officer presents these coins to Sailors for a job well done , re-enlistment or retirement and also to visiting dignitaries. Some are serialized and the command maintains a log on who got which coin, since the Commamding Officers name is on it that tells me that he paid for the challenge coin out of his own pocket a not uncommon practice.

Per Linkedin [h=4]Commanding Officer[/h][h=5]Naval Operations Support Center, Charleston, SC[/h]November 2010 – January 2013 (2 years 3 months)
Responsible for providing the vision and leadership necessary to ensure the health, welfare, morale and war fighting ability of over 450 reserve and active duty personnel assigned to 22 separate units.

Your chances of returning to its original owner are very slim as it is not an uncommon challenge coin. You could return it to the commanding officer to re-issue it to another deserving sailor.

Thanks BH......I looked very carefully and don't see any serial numbers on this coin. So there is no way I'm going to be able to return it.
I noticed you are Retired Navy. Thank You for your service......

Question...I've got a friend who is a Vietnam Navy Vet. Do you think it would be alright to pass this coin to him?

Pretty cool find.
Gonna be tough to find the original recipient.
Congratulations on your finds.

Thank you for the thank you, I don’t really deserve it as I had way to much fun and satisfaction serving our nation. I bet you friend would love the coin and would cherish it, challenge coins are collected and traded and as this was a personal coin the chances of finding the original recipient is slim it is appropriate that an old salt should enjoy it.

Interesting coin find and nice jewelry finds, congratulations!

Wow, a lot of nice stuff you found. Congrats
