Iron Arrow Point

Any thoughts on age on these iron arrow points? Found in ground in Charleston, SC. I'm thinking a trade item and used by Native Americans? Larger one is 4.5 inches. Smaller one is 2 inches.

It would be contact era and then not much longer after that if found in that area is my guess. Natives mimicked what they were used to out of an introduced material. It was the end of stone age technology. Kinda sad.

Interesting finds. They don't look like the normal trade iron points that you see, but these would be from a different time period as well. M

If you posted these in one of the European forums, the metal detectorists might think they were local and much older. Here are some medieval points from Europe.

They look like classis Roman points from the 1st to 3rd century. You can find similar ones on Ebay for a quick photo comparison.

4 or 5 stemmed iron points similar to yours were found in the vicinity of a Susquehannock village in PA. They are unusual here also but found on a noted trading location. Maybe from a local black smith.

The points were found at the confluence of the Susquehanna and the Lackawanna rivers in Duryea PA.

I never knew they were out there on the East Coast. I understand from research that out WEST they are a few around , made from the wagon wheels staves or metal rims that use to surround a wagon wheel by Native Americans during the 1800's. Liked to get one for my collection but no luck finding one yet.

Uncannily similar to this pair of points offered a while ago on eBay and described as "18th Century Iron Arrow Points, Dug in Charleston SC, French & Indian War Period: Offered in this 7-day sale are two c.1700-1750 Forged Iron Arrow Points. This iron points were ground recovered in the Charleston, SC area. Points like this could have been used for hunting or war."

Yes, I was the one that bought it on ebay. Wanted to see other's opinions about the artifact.

I'll try to get a pic of the one iron point found locally here. It is way different. Cat had major surgery and I am cat-sitting the last few days.

I found this one in the interior of BC some 50+ years ago.
At the time it was assumed that it was made from a barrel strap or wheel.
