I found this yesterday at the 1800s NJ farm site I've been hunting. Here are the details.

9" below surface
IRON
VDI = -58
5" x 5" x 5-1/2" (edges)
opening on one side is 1"wide by 2" deep

I think that it might be a plow point off of a garden push plow.

I think It's the handle portion of a very old shovel with the blade having rusted away. I have found them blacksmith made, from a single sheet of metal that had been folded, then hammered flat in the center, the two ends were used to form a receiving pocket for the handle. There may have been a neck that was forged that is probably rusted away also, leaving only the receiving pocket that would resemble a triangular shaped axe head. I could send photos of some of mine if ya need to see example.
