Does anyone know how old this iron flat button is and who would have used it? It was found on a site where things dug date back to colonial times in Savannah, GA. I spent a week cleaning this thing to see if there was some non ferrous in there, but its all iron. I have never seen an iron flat button.

Does that teat look like it is part of the button? If I use my imagination I can almost see an eagle on the front.

All I can come up with, based on the protrusion, is maybe half of a cloak clasp?
