Hi guys and gals, I found this Cob on the beach recently and its my first "cob" find weither it turns out to be real or fake. Right now I'm trying not to get too excited. So what do you guys think? It weighs 2.4 grams and is a bit smaller than a U.S. dime. Looking at it from the side its thicker on one end than the other :dontknow: As far as I can figure it is a 1 real from the Lima mint?

I don’t know why anyone would make a copy of a coin this small, seems like a larger coin would make a better souvenir.
:icon_scratch:

Any way I would appreciate some help. ;D

It appears to be an interesting reproduction.

Its the size and has the cross of a two escudo
but is corroded green like a silver coin!

Now it may have been a thinly gold plated silver or copper and some
other alloy reproduction..... It still could be and appears quite old.
counterfeiting is not a new idea! Look at all the splinters of the cross
kicking around the world!

Thanks for the reply Dom. I guess I'll hold off awhile on the custom bezel. :laughing7:

Yeah, it would appear to be a tourist-type replica of a 1714 or so Mexico escudo... though I think it is a 1 Escudo as opposed to a 2 Escudo (looks like the "I" denomination to the right of the shield).

finding things is fun!

whatever they may be.... think of it this way,
as it is not gold you most likely won't be burdened with
the concept of selling it because then you wouldn't have
it as a keepsake anymore....

At a couple of resorts in the Bahamas for instance they have sprinkled
a few beached with replica coins for their patrons to happen
upon.... They should print a drink or gift token on the
other side though...
